Position Summary

General Mills is a global company with operations in over 100 countries. We are currently seeking a highly skilled and motivated Scientist II to join our Research & Development team in Powai, Mumbai, India. As a Scientist II, you will be responsible for collaborating with our global team to drive innovation and deliver high-quality research projects in the field of Biological & Life Sciences.

Job Responsibilities

Client Consultation and Business Partnering (20% of Time)

  • Work closely with clients to understand their needs and translate them into clear project objectives, timelines, and plans.
  • Maintain regular communication with clients, providing updates on project progress, addressing queries, and delivering on project commitments.
  • Effectively communicate analysis, conclusions, and insights to clients through written reports and meetings.

Excellent Technical Work (50% of Time)

  • Develop effective search and analysis strategies based on client consultations and project briefs.
  • Conduct thorough searches of various information sources, such as scientific literature, patents, and consumer research, to acquire relevant results for the project.
  • Analyze and synthesize search results to address key project questions.
  • Utilize a variety of information databases and search tools to support project work.
  • Create clear and accurate summary reports and visualizations to convey relevant information and insights.
  • Build a network of external science and technology contacts to leverage in research work.

Training and Mentoring, Project Leadership (15% of Time)

  • Develop process documentation and onboarding materials for new employees.
  • Provide guidance and support to junior Scientists as needed.
  • Review peers’ work and provide constructive feedback.
  • Take on project leadership when required.

Innovation, Continuous Improvement, and Personal Development (10% of Time)

  • Adopt a continuous improvement mindset, seeking opportunities to enhance efficiency and client value.
  • Identify new resources and methods to drive innovation in work processes.
  • Continually enhance skills and knowledge in information research and relevant scientific fields.

Administration (5% of Time)

  • Participate in required training sessions and company meetings.
  • Complete necessary administrative tasks.

Desired Profile

Education:

  • Minimum Degree Requirement: Masters
  • Preferred Degree Requirement: Masters
  • Preferred Major Area of Study: Food Science, Food Technology, Biochemistry, Biological Life Sciences, Biotechnology, Chemical Engineering, Protein Chemistry, Carbohydrate Chemistry, Lipid Chemistry, or related scientific or interdisciplinary fields.

Experience:

  • Minimum years of related experience required: Three
  • Preferred years of related experience: Six

Specific Job Experience or Skills Needed:

For the Global Science and Information Analysis Program Area:

  • Effective communication and collaboration skills with other researchers within General Mills and external partners.
  • Experience in reviewing, interpreting, summarizing, and deriving insights from scientific literature and knowledge of literature databases.
  • Understanding of patent field basics and familiarity with patent databases and search tools.
  • Ability to find, assimilate, synthesize, and communicate scientific and technical knowledge, including patents.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to work cross-functionally with global team members.
  • Highly self-motivated with the ability to work independently and in teams.
  • Ability to drive projects to completion with attention to detail.
  • Ability to handle confidential and proprietary information with discretion.
