CIRCULAR

Internship starting in the month of October-2023 under Internship Scheme 2021 at Food Safety and Standards Authority of India

The Food Safety & Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) is a statutory body established under the Food Safety & Standards Act, 2006 under the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India. FSSAI is responsible for ensuring food safety and compliance to food standards across the country. We are offering an internship program that will provide interns with unique learning opportunities in various areas of food regulation and food safety administration.

Eligibility Criteria

Students pursuing a full-time graduate/post-graduate degree from a recognized institute within India or abroad are eligible to apply. The following fields of study are eligible:

• Pursuing Post Graduate Degree/B.Tech/BE from a recognized University or
  Institution in Chemistry or Biochemistry or Food Technology or Food Science &
  Technology or Food & Nutrition or Edible Oil Technology or Microbiology or Dairy
  Technology or Agricultural or horticultural Sciences or Industrial Microbiology or Toxicology or Public Health or Life Science or Biotechnology or Fruit & Vegetable Technology or Food Safety & Quality Assurance
• Business Administration & Management (including policy regulation and related fields) – Only at FSSAI (HQ)
• Journalism, Mass Communication, and Public Relations (PG Diploma/Degree)
• Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering or related stream (B.E./B. Tech 3rd and 4th-year students only)
• Public Policy, Public Administration (Post Graduate Degree/Diploma) – Only for FSSAI (HQ)
• Bachelor/Master of Law – Only for FSSAI (HQ)

1. All students who have completed the mentioned courses need not apply.
2. Multiple applications will not be entertained.

Tenure

The internship will be available throughout the year at different points in time. The minimum duration of the internship is 2 months, which may be extended to a maximum period of 6 months. Applications for internships of less than 2 months will not be considered.

Working Space

Interns are required to have their own laptops. FSSAI will provide working space, internet facility, and other necessities, but local lodging and travel facilities will not be covered. FSSAI will not bear the expenses of any boarding.

Application Process

1. Interested and eligible students can apply online in the specified format, as per the timelines provided by FSSAI. If you have previously applied for an internship, you need to apply afresh.
2. Shortlisted candidates may be required to submit a short write-up/presentation for final selection.
3. The final list of selected candidates, along with their date of joining and internship tenure, will be declared online on the FSSAI website by the respective office.
4. At the time of joining, interns must carry a letter from their institute indicating their student status and a “No Objection Certificate” if applicable. A character certificate and proof of educational qualifications mentioned in the application form must also be submitted at the time of joining.
5. Internship scheme will be scheduled quarterly throughout the year. Requests for extension of joining time for more than a week will not be accepted.

Assignments

Interns will be attached to one of the several divisions at FSSAI (HQ), Regional Offices (ROs), or National Food Laboratories (Labs). They will be assigned projects related to different aspects of food and nutrition management processes, based on their academic and technical training.

Stipend

A stipend of Rs. 10,000/- (Rupees ten thousand only) for the entire internship period will be given to deserving interns on the recommendation of the Office/Division they are attached to by the respective FSSAI (HQ), Regional Offices, or Laboratories. Deserving interns will be decided based on their attendance, assessment by reporting officers, and evaluation of the report by the Committee.

Certificate

All interns who successfully complete the internship, submit their final report/presentation, and receive a recommendation from the Project Evaluation Committee will be awarded a certificate by the Human Resource Division, FSSAI (HQ).
